Egypt has officially joined Horizon Europe, marking a major milestone in scientific collaboration between the European Union and North Africa. Following the conclusion of association negotiations on 10 April 2025, the final agreement – expected to be signed before November – will enable Egyptian researchers to access European funding under the same conditions as their EU counterparts.
This association opens up new opportunities for collaboration in key areas such as energy transition, food security and water management, and digital innovation – all crucial to building a more sustainable and resilient future.
Egypt’s participation will not only strengthen research ties but also bring fresh perspectives and expertise to Europe’s largest research and innovation framework.
At the widerAdvance Facility, we welcome this important step towards a more inclusive and connected research ecosystem – one that extends the impact of Horizon Europe beyond borders and supports shared progress through knowledge and innovation.
